Welcome to Ride the City, a website that helps you find the safest bike routes in cities.
Like MapQuest, Google Maps, and other mapping applications, Ride the City finds the shortest distance between two points, with a difference. First, RTC avoids roads that aren't meant for biking, like highways and busy arterial streets. Second, RTC tries to steer cyclists toward routes that maximize the use of bike lanes, bike paths, greenways, and other bike-friendly streets.
Remember that Ride the City is in its beta testing phase. Click the feedback link in the menu bar to send us your route suggestions and it will make the site even better.

Who made Ride the City?
Ride the City would not have been possible without: Josh Steinbauer, who designed our logo and the site's initial layout; AnnMarie Harris, our favorite writer, editor, and marketer; and all of the good people of New York, Chicago, Austin, and other cities who have provided data and feedback to help us expand the service and improve the quality of the routes.

Enter your cell phone number, choose your carrier, and click Send. (No, we don't keep your phone number. And yes, your carrier's normal SMS charges may apply.)
This will soon include a wizard that generates html for a Ride the City widget. For now, just copy the iframe code html below and paste it in your website. You can use virtually any width greater than 270 pixels and any height greater than about 300 pixels (though it will be more usable if it's bigger, of course).

Pretty good—close to the best possible route
OK, but it took a few unusual turns
Pretty bad—it was more wrong than it was right
Terrible from start to finish

You've selected the most direct route. Ride the City makes no attempt to steer you toward safer streets with this option. Please ride with care.
