About Hubway:

Hubway is Metro-Boston’s self-service bike share system. As of 2015, Motivate operates approximately 1300 bikes at over 140 stations in the Hubway region, including Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, and Somerville. Hubway is a convenient, sustainable, healthy, community-based transport option that enhances urban livability and mobility, and is accessible to residents, students, and visitors alike.

Overview of Position:

Motivate is seeking Field Bike Technicians to help with all aspects of bicycle assembly, maintenance, and repair. Training on technical and unique aspects of Hubway bikes will be provided. Field Bike Technicians will ride between stations to provide on the spot maintenance and technical assistance to help ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Hubway system.

Key Aspects of Position:

Work alone or with other Street Team members under the guidance of the Dispatch Manager.
Ride a bicycle throughout city to check status and perform routine maintenance on bicycles.
Evaluate bike condition and escalate issues, as needed.
Inspect bike stations for safety, operability and cleanliness.
Work with Customer Service and Bike Service teams to ensure timely and productive workflows.
Data entry for inventory and work order tracking purposes.
Clean rental stations from debris.
Provide valet support at key stations during peak usage.
Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
Clean rental station sites from debris.
Provide bicycle valet support at certain station locations.

Shifts Available:

Availability on an On-Call basis Only. Scheduling lead times will vary.

Sunday – Friday, typically 9am – 5pm, though sometimes 8am – 4pm if necessary

Required Skills and Experience:

Must be at least 18 years old.
High School diploma or equivalency.
Ability to work various shifts as assigned, including evenings and weekends
Ability to ride a bicycle in city traffic for extended periods of time.
Basic knowledge of Boston geography and street layout.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 45 pounds.
Preferred Skills and Experience:

Passion for bikes, efficiency and sustainability is a plus.
Previous bicycle mechanic experience preferred.
